naturalismo presents: hollywood hoot

To all our friends that live in the Los Angeles area: this Saturday, August 2, naturalismo is proud to host the first of what we hope will be many gatherings in the Los Angeles area. We call it the hoot, short for hootenanny, in honor of such a great (but lost) tradition in folk music. Now, I’m not talking about folk music that’s necessarily harmonicas and banjos and guitars (though those are awesome). I’m talking about music that’s organically made, amongst like minded people, passing what they know along to others interested in knowing. In the days of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, and Leadbelly, folk musiscians would gather in Greenwich apartements and old barns alike to share tunes and stories late into the night. We aim to revive the tradition in the hopes that, through a shared passion for music, we can create something special and lasting.

So this Saturday, bring as many people as you want – and definitely bring instruments – to the first hollywood hoot. Hope to see you there!

  2. ok, officially inspired. I live in the boring parts of North Carolina where this doesn’t already happen all the time. I shall raise the battle horn of Gondor and summon all musical folks to mystical sonic communication!
