Any day, any moment now, Rachel Goodrich will release her first full-length album, one of self-described “shake-a-billy” acoustic folk music, called Tinker Toys on her own Yellow Bear Records. July saw Goodrich play a few shows in her native Florida (she’s from Miami) and earlier in the summer she played some shows up in the north country. The spoons, clapping and kazoos infused into her catchy melodies, the whimsical art on her Web site and all the other quirk and psych nonsense (check that bizarre and beautifully short video clip on her MySpace page) that emanate from her show that she doesn’t take anything too seriously. Still, her music sounds like its having a blast being played. And listening to it is like putting on a polka-dotted pair of super socks and sprinting down an endless and open wooden hallway. Wheeeeeeeee.
