I’ve been increasingly optimistic about how such a plethora of artists who were initially overlooked or even chastised from the outset have been increasingly garnering status as the true sonic innovators they are. Thank god for blind determination and a handful of fans along the way to encourage artists who actually dare attempt and change the contemporary make up of what’s pushing the boundaries of the evolution of music. Ariel Pink leading the way with John Maus and Holy Shit increasingly building the same sort of momentum. I get the feeling it’s less of a change in their music than it is in an entire generation of listeners catching up. Holy Shit’s clearly on the same plane, back from hibernation and with the (possible) rare chance to catch a bit of inspiration on the entire former trio of bands-with Fanuelle this Saturday at Cakeshop.  An artist who has similarly dynamically broken the mould as this dare I say, classic, group of metaphysical pop musicians coming to the fore have. An artist who is most likely only unknown by those same groups fans because of anyone exposed to his music wanting to covet his songs as a sonorous secret for herself (Kp is just as guilty of it, he’s made several semi-secret appearances here). At this point in Know Phases history, I’m sure anyone reading this far will understand his music. Fanuelle and his other project Nunzio Fattini are some of the most immediate and refreshing horizons of music I’ve uncovered in years. He continually conjures lost melodies that catch you off guard with how strong they are and with just the right production that it simultaneously sounds futuristic and classic.
