When a new artist leaves me grasping for influences several times within each song I have no choice but to take notice. I was drawn to Tonstartssbandht awhile back and catching them live a few weeks ago only reconfirmed that there’s some seriously subtle to overt genius going on within the brother duo. Their numerous projects can be confusing to keep track of but I somehow am always led directly to them regardless because their melodies and songs are just so out there and strong. Eddy who is one half of Tonstartssbandht has just unleashed his latest solo project EOLA and it just keeps on leveling up. I’ve been binging on the respiring Channeling for the past few days and it somewhat recalls this early 80′s Nik Tyndall track that is a favorite of mine and I’ve been looking for an excuse to post:

Haussmann is a breath of fresh air amongst the NY music scene. Finally someone who understands that the best surf music of all time was written not in California but in Brooklyn. I think there’s something in that that is entirely overlooked. That’s not to say Haussmann is even entirely surf, that’d be an oversimplification. In reality they/he falls somewhere between Durutti Column and Joachim Ehrig. I’ve always had an affinity for the Vini Reilly figures, someone who seems to understand what’s going on in a more beautiful and methodical light. The sonic fringe, through a sharp analytical lens…with a purely melodic take – Haussmann.

This song conjures a futuristic spin on the sound that the Stone Roses would later tap into.

@ The halfway point the unexpected dubby synth line wouldn’t be out of place on Peaking Lights latest album.

I’ve been sitting on this track (along with a plethora of other summer jams yet to come) for awhile waiting for the weather to make sense of the sounds. Sun Araw has been in town the past week and I feel like he’s on a similar plane. What amazes me about the Lines is that upon first listen you could mistake them as a 2011 force, rather than their somewhat unbelievable early eighties roots.

This album has entirely consumed me, why listen to anything else?

In this heat/On the heels of Maus’ new album leaking online, this song just makes sense..
This new Cough Cool track spins on a similar plane:
