Haussmann is a breath of fresh air amongst the NY music scene. Finally someone who understands that the best surf music of all time was written not in California but in Brooklyn. I think there’s something in that that is entirely overlooked. That’s not to say Haussmann is even entirely surf, that’d be an oversimplification. In reality they/he falls somewhere between Durutti Column and Joachim Ehrig. I’ve always had an affinity for the Vini Reilly figures, someone who seems to understand what’s going on in a more beautiful and methodical light. The sonic fringe, through a sharp analytical lens…with a purely melodic take – Haussmann.
